Sculpting in Motion: A New Dimension in Exhibition Design

Chite Sung's Award-Winning Concept Transforms Museum Spaces

Chite Sung's innovative design, "Sculpting in Motion," redefines the concept of interactive exhibition spaces. This unique design, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, is a testament to Sung's creative prowess and his ability to transform ordinary spaces into dynamic, interactive environments.

"Sculpting in Motion" is an exhibition design located in a corner of the Taipei Fine Arts Museum. Inspired by the concept of an "exhibit within an exhibit," Sung used minimal materials to create a "spatial container" for art exhibitions. The structure, made from a simple, economical, and unadorned deck, is filled with packaging tape, creating a unique space for art to be displayed.

The design's unique properties lie in its simplicity and adaptability. Sung used driftwood and thread, two contrasting yet complementary materials, to provide visitors with an opportunity to explore the space and create. This results in a space that changes daily, allowing for the wild imaginings of the linkage between the body and the space.

The design was realized using a combination of driftwood and thread, two materials that contrast in texture yet complement each other. This combination provides visitors with an opportunity to explore the space and create, resulting in a space that changes daily. The wild imaginings of the linkage between the body and the space are thus made possible.

"Sculpting in Motion" is more than just a design; it's an experience. As visitors move through the space, their physical experiences are visualized. The design encourages visitors to become creators and viewers simultaneously, roaming, moving, and encountering each other in the space. They are involved in the creation, change the traces that are left there, and constantly transform the work on display.

The design posed several challenges, particularly in terms of creating a space that could be explored and transformed daily. However, Sung's innovative approach allowed him to overcome these challenges and create a design that is not only visually stunning but also interactive and engaging.

"Sculpting in Motion" is a testament to Sung's creativity and innovation in design. It's a design that subverts existing designs of interactive space, allowing viewers to take part, observe, sit quietly, and play games. It's a creation for all ages, and a design that truly brings art to life.
